Unite ballot result on Nov30 “delayed” – expected today

Unite says the result of its ballot for strike action on November the 30th to save public sector pensions has been delayed.

The declaration would have been the third of the day from some of the UK’s biggest unions.

Earlier, the GMB announced members had voted 84% in favour on a turnout of 33% to strike over proposed cuts to pensions. The building workers’ union UCATT also declared 83% of members had voted for strike action, on a 27% turnout.

Sources describe the delay as “an old fashioned hitch, and nothing sinister”. The result is now expected some time tomorrow morning.

Today’s statements mean a total of 22 unions have voted to join the day of action on 30th November.  Unite and five other unions are due to announce the results of their own strike ballots in the coming days, including the teachers’ union NASUWT.
