Aidan Burley, who is leading the attack on trade union facility time, has apologised for “any offence caused” by his friends dressing up in SS costumes, performing Nazi salutes in a restaurant, calling each other “Himmler” “Eichmann” and “Mein Fuhrer”, and insulting waiting staff at a ski resort in the French Alps.
Burley also said he “deeply regrets the inappropriate behaviour” of his friends, but neither attempted to stop their behaviour at the time, nor condemned their behaviour since.
His actions are likely to alarm the Conservative Friends of Israel and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs who together paid more than £1,500 for him to visit Israel in the summer.
UnionNews on Saturday ran a story investigating Burley’s position as chairman of the unelected and unaccountable Trade Union Reform Campaign (TURC). TURC has ignored questions from UnionNews about who elected Burley to his position and who funds the campaign.
Burley submitted an Early Day Motion in Parliament calling for an end to facility time, yet it has so far attracted just 11 signatures.
