by - 10th July 2012, 8.06 BST

Frances O’Grady is set to become the first woman general secretary of the TUC.

Members of the TUC executive will this morning meet to discuss nominations for the post and will hear that O’Grady, the current deputy general secretary, is the only candidate.

Her appointment is expected to be confirmed at Congress in September, with her taking over from Brendan Barber at the end of the year.

The 52-year-old worked for the TGWU, campaigning for equal pay and the national minimum wage, before joining the TUC in 1994.

More details to come throughout the morning.
